 Education Abroad Program

The University of Alberta’s Education Abroad Program coordinates over 100 summer, term and year study abroad programs to over 35 countries including China, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan. Please go to the following linkto see what is available: Go Abroad.

JASSO (Japan Student Services Organization) INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP FOR SHORT-TERM STUDY IN JAPAN

  • This scholarship is available for qualified international students accepted by Japanese universities or graduate schools under the student exchange agreement on a short-term basis from about three months to one year.
  • No requirement as to the level of Japanese.
  • You will study at one of the University of Alberta’s formal exchange partners in Japan (see the University of Alberta’s  Education Abroad Program for a list of partner universities in Japan: www.international.ualberta.ca/goabroad)
  • Monthly stipend of 80,000 Yen
  • After being nominated to and accepted for exchange at one of our Japanese partner institutions you will be contacted with information about how to apply for JASSO either directly by the Japanese partner institution or by the University of Alberta on behalf of the Japanese partner institution.

Monbusho (Japanese Ministry of Education) Nihongo/Nihonbunka Kenshu

  • One year (October - September in the following year).
  • Must be a Japanese Language & Literature major. 
  • Advanced-level (300-level and up) Japanese is required in order to study in the Japanese university system.
  • You will study at one of the University of Alberta’s formal exchange partners in Japan (see the University of Alberta’s  Education Abroad Program for a list of partner universities in Japan: www.international.ualberta.ca/goabroad)
  • Scholarship provided (134,000 yen per month)
  • Some conditions may apply.
  • After being nominated to and accepted for exchange at one of our Japanese partner institutions you will be contacted with information about how to apply for Monbusho either directly by the Japanese partner institution or by the University of Alberta on behalf of the Japanese partner institution.

(5) Faculty of Business exchange programme

  • Students in the Faculty of Business may be able to study at either Sophia U, or Nagoya Shoka U. For details, contact the Faculty. 

(6) Japan Foundation Nihongo Seiseki Yuushuusha Kenshuu Program (Study Tour for Outstanding Students of Japanese Language)

  • An opportunity for a two-week-long trip to Japan. The information regarding this program will be announced once we hear from the Japanese consulate.
