The Bank of Canada has just announced that the University of Alberta Economics team participating in the Governor's Challenge, has been selected to advance to the final round of this prestigious, Canada-wide competition. The final round will take place in the Bank of Canada's Ottawa headquarters on February 10, 2018. As part of this competition, the undergraduate student teams from 27 Canadian Universities compete by making a well-supported policy recommendation to the Bank of Canada regarding the future course of monetary policy in Canada. Only five teams advanced to the final round.
Five undergraduate students representing the University of Alberta, namely Katarina Wasielewski, Dhruti Vajaria, Leonardo Teran, David Ritter and David Kalashnikov, were coached for this role by their faculty advisers, Dr. Malik Shukayev and Dr. Max Sties. The training for the first round of Governor's Challenge was integrated into our Econ 485: Macroeconomic Policy class, taught this year by Dr. Malik Shukayev. Congratulations to the University of Alberta Economics team for this achievement! Keep up the good work!
