Master of Education in Health Sciences Education

Transform Teaching in your professional practice

Upcoming Events

The Master of Education in Health Sciences Education (MHSE) provides you with the opportunity to complete an M.Ed. without taking a leave from your career. You can integrate your area(s) of professional practice throughout your studies while you explore the challenges and opportunities associated with health professional education.

The MHSE is designed for inter-professional health professionals and clinical faculty. It provides students with opportunities to develop educational research skills and apply them in specific contexts of interest. Highly qualified, enthusiastic faculty from the Faculty of Education and health professionals ensure exceptional levels of individualized support for students as they investigate their own topic(s) of educational interest.

The MHSE is a minimum two-year, part-time, course-based and thesis-based program. All students are admitted to the course-based program. Students may request a change of program category to a thesis-based route after completion of ★24 credits of required coursework, in consultation with their advisor(s). Change of program category must be made no later than the end of the second year of the program.
The program is cohort-based. A typical cohort includes health professionals and clinical faculty from a broad range of disciplines: for example, medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, physiotherapy, nursing, speech pathology, and paramedics--to name only a few. This inter-professional diversity supports rich learning conversations, where students routinely share experiences and collaboratively build new insights about health professional education.

The Master of Education in Health Sciences Education program is offered through the Faculty of Education in collaboration with the health science faculties at the University of Alberta.
