The Graduate Certificate in School Leadership (GCSL) enables Catholic school leaders to hone leadership practices centered on Alberta’s Leadership Quality Standard (LQS) and the Leadership Quality Standard of Catholic Education in order to support and build up Catholic Education.
You will explore dimensions of leadership within Catholic Education and engage in authentic tasks and experiences including job-embedded learning components in which you will visit, observe, and collaborate with another school leader or leadership team in a Catholic school setting of your choice.
The GCSL is a flexible, part-time, varied-delivery program that facilitates studying without taking a leave from your career. This four-course experience is designed to develop your leadership capacity in areas such as:
- Leading a learning community in times of change
- Providing instructional leadership for increased student engagement
- Managing school operations and resources
- Moving policy to practice
- Modelling continuous professional learning for teachers
- Supporting the application of foundational knowledge about Indigenous Peoples
- Understanding the social context of schooling
Courses are provided fully online with some synchronous content.
The Graduate Certificate meets the academic requirements for principal and superintendent certification in Alberta. Please note that you must hold an Alberta Permanent Professional Certificate (PPC) in order to obtain principal and superintendent certification in Alberta.
In addition, this program can ladder into a Master's degree. Click here for more information.
