As future educators we are always looking for ways to help out and get involved in our community here on campus.

The Education Mentor Program is a great new initiative that offers you opportunities to get involved, and you will make a difference in the first-year experiences of our Education students.

  • What does it mean to be an Education Mentor?

    - Participating in mentor training
    - Mentoring students new to campus through bi-weekly communication in through the fall semester.
    - Connecting via email with prospective education students
    - Participating in a minimum of 3 hours of mentor volunteer activities including events such as Open House, Week of Welcome, Alumni events and more.

  • Why should you be a mentor?

    The Education Mentor Program is a great way to get involved in and give back to the UAlberta campus community. Not only will you be making a real difference in a student's transition to university, but you’ll also benefit in the following ways:

      - get valuable mentor training
      - strengthen your leadership skills
      - make new friends and build a network of other future educators
      - acquire verifiable volunteer hours

  • Who can apply to be a mentor?

    To apply to be a mentor in the Education Mentor Program, you must be:

       - a student in the Faculty of Education during the academic year in which you are applying to be a mentor
       - a student in “first-class” or “satisfactory” academic standing (minimum 2.0 GPA)
       - available to attend the required dates as listed below (see Application information section)

    Traits that are commonly associated with successful mentor applicants include:

       - excellent communication skills
       - a commitment to great leadership
       - genuine enthusiasm about the student experience in the Faculty of Education

  • Application Information

    We are accepting applications for mentors for the 2018/2019 academic year. Applications will close February 23, 2018 and successful candidates will be contacted in March 2018.

    Please note that if you sign up this year you will also have first access to all Faculty of Education volunteer opportunities.

    Required Dates:

    *Please mark these dates down as they mandatory sessions

    -Training Session on Tuesday March 27th from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m or Saturday April 7th from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m
    - Mentorship Group Meeting Tuesday, September 11th 2018 4:00pm – 5:30pm
    -Commit to check-ins each term and event pre-meetings (These will be more flexible)
