Graduate travel support fund

There are several opportunities to obtain awards for travel support for conferences, etc., while in your program. See eligibility details on the individual application forms; links for these forms are available in the "Awards" section of the electronic Forms Cabinet on this website.

The Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research: Graduate students may apply only once in each of their degree programs for FGSR travel support (i.e. once during Master's and once during Doctoral program) and only receive one of the following three sources of funding in total (not one of each award). If approved, FGSR determines which of the 3 sources of funding (Imrie, Kaplan or Profiling Alberta Graduate Students) to award the student.

  • Mary Louise Imrie Graduate Student Award
  • J. Gordin Kaplan Graduate Student Award
  • Profiling Alberta's Graduate Students Award

The eligibility requirements and application forms these Research Travel Grants are available at the following website: FGSR Awards

Myer Horowitz Graduate Student Travel Award: The Faculty of Education provides guidelines for those who would like to apply for travel support. Application forms are available from Awards Forms. Besides support for travel to conferences at which you are actively interacting or presenting, the Faculty supports other research travel - to libraries, archives, field locations, etc. - if your supervisor can verify this is necessary for and directly related to the completion of your thesis research in an accompanying statement. To qualify for travel awards, students must have completed preliminary coursework and other prerequisites and be actively engaged in research toward their thesis. Students must be registered as full-time students at the time of application.

Graduate Student Scholarly Conference Travel Award: The Department of Educational Policy Studies will support graduate students who present at scholarly conferences on the following basis:

  • students must be authoring and presenting papers at peer-reviewed scholarly conferences (single and multiple paper sessions, posters, and round-tables are all acceptable).
  • students must present their work in the Department as a condition of receiving an award.
  • students must be registered either part-time or full-time as graduate students of the Department.
  • students may receive only one award during their programs (students who pursue both master’s and doctoral degrees in the Department may receive one award during each degree).
  • each award is worth $1000 and the number of awards granted each year (1 July – 30 June) is determined by the endowment spending allocation.
  • there is no application deadline and awards will be granted until all the allocation is expended.
  • students are to apply to the Chair of the Department providing the following:
