The Department of Elementary Education is proud to announce the promotion of three of their colleagues. Drs. Trudy Cardinal and Janelle McFeetors were awarded tenure and promoted to Associate Professor and Dr. Mijung Kim was promoted to full Professor.

"This is an important recognition of their achievements and contributions to the Department of Elementary Education, the University of Alberta, and the field of education," says Jerine Pegg, Department Chair. "We are so proud of their work and can't wait to see what else they will do in the future."

Mijung Kim is a science education scholar who studies possibilities and challenges of teaching science as inquiry, children's collective reasoning and problem solving, and dialogical argumentation as a genre of scientific communication. Her current research involves questions on science teaching for peace and sustainability and teacher professional vision for pedagogical reflection and practice.

Trudy Cardinal is a Cree/Metis language and literacy educator from Northern Alberta. Her research focuses on identity negotiations of Aboriginal children, youth and families in and out of schools, narrative inquiry, Indigenous research, and teacher education.

Janelle McFeetors is a mathematics education scholar. Her work investigates how students are learning mathematics in meaningful ways through commercial games, as well as how to teach and learn mathematics for understanding through an inquiry-based approach.

The promotions are effective July 1, 2019. Congratulations to all three of these incredible scholars!
