If you are enrolled in or have successfully completed a College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) accredited two-year Family Medicine residency program, or are a practicing family physician with CCFP certification, you may apply to this one-year program.
The program involves a multi-site experience that allows the resident to be exposed to different Emergency Departments, critical care training and specialty skills like anesthesia and emergency orthopaedics. The program goal is to expose residents to a wide range of disease entities among various age, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups. The aim of this program is to empower the family physician trainee to become a skilled and knowledgeable practitioner of Emergency Medicine in a wide variety of settings.
Successful completion of the program allows you to sit the national exam for certification for Special Competence in Emergency Medicine (CCFP(EM)). The program is affiliated with the Department of Family Medicine and the Department of Emergency Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta. The University of Alberta CFPC-EM Residency Program currently maintains full Category 1 accreditation status with the CFPC.
