Reception Centre and Shelter

The University responds to emergencies that affect our students, staff and faculty by developing incident action plans (IAP).

Where an emergency impacts where you live, study and / or work for a brief or long period of time, a reception centre or shelter becomes part of that IAP.

The reception centre or shelter may be set up for our distressed or displaced community or offered to guests who find themselves seriously impacted by an emergency on their own campus, work place or community.

In 2016, the University of Alberta opened its doors to those evacuated from the Fort MacMurray wildfires.

Along with our community partners and Red Cross, we offered the essential emergency services:

  • lodging
  • food
  • personal services.

Thank you to our community partners.
