Three HCR scholars participated in an archaeological survey project in Petra, Jordan

Three members of the Department of History, Classics, and Religion recently returned from an archaeological survey project in and around Petra, Jordan. Dr. Craig Harvey, Dr. Amanda Hardman, and MA student Joshua Feland, participated in the project, “Exploring Continuity and Transition in Southern Jordan,” alongside Dr. Jenifer Ramsay (SUNY-Brockport) and Dr. Björn Anderson (University of Iowa).

This survey project sought to enhance our understanding of Nabataean prehistory, particularly regarding cultural activities (ritual, funerary, agriculture, engineering) during the Iron Age and their continuity or transition into the Nabataean period. The project was supported by a Stevan B. Dana Project Grant from the American Society of Overseas Research (ASOR). Joshua Feland was also awarded a Burton MacDonald and Rosemarie Sampson Fellowship by the American Center of Research, Amman (ACOR) to support his participation in the project.
