Launch of Feminist Collaboratory on October 17
2 October 2024

We invite you to join us in launching a new Feminist Collaboratory at the University of Alberta on October 17, 2024.
The Collaboratory will host multiple research labs and initiatives that address the pressing need for social repair within our digital and research networks. Together, we aim to tackle structural inequalities and promote equity, diversity, and inclusion in the creative industries through the provision of a safe and inclusive space designed for researchers and students in Media and Technology Studies and Women’s and Gender Studies and more broadly across the university.
The Collaboratory features a striking mural prepared by renowned YEG artist Emily Chu: https://heyemilychu.com/
Our focus will be on exploring the role of reparative approaches in social justice research and developing equitable models for media and cultural industries. Working across disciplinary boundaries, we will shift the focus from incessant innovation (building new) to repair (building on and with), in a collaborative hub that engages with community and industry partners to promote race and gender equity.
Labs participating in the new space include kinomatics: www.kinomatics.com and the Centre for the Analysis of Relational Data (CARD).
Date: Oct 17, 2024
Location: Room 434, Old Arts
