The University of Alberta will be upgradingupgrading its People Soft Human Capital Management (HCM) system on Tuesday October 11, 2016. In this post, we’ll be outlining who will be impacted, the supports that will be made available for the transition, and an early overview of what to expect from the upgrade from PeopleSoft HCM 9.0 to 9.2.

Who will this impact?

All employees, including both Support and Academic staff, will be impacted by the upgrade, which will include the roll out of updated and new Employee Self-Service functions.

Those individuals who are involved in human resource functions across campus will see the greatest changes to the system. The introduction of new functionality and modifications to existing features will introduce changes in the way some work is currently being done. This may impact internal business processes within departments and faculties. The changes you see will vary depending on your role. You will hear more about these changes in future communications.

Why upgrade?

PeopleSoft Human Capital Management [HCM] has been the core system for managing employee records at the University of Alberta since August 1999.

While there have been changes to the system over the years, the upcoming upgrade of PeopleSoft will be focused on providing better access to information and creating more efficiency within the human resource function across campus.

With this upgrade, we will make more efficient use of functionality that is already available within the system. Our goal is to provide better access to information and improve the validity and integrity of our information so people can work with a higher degree of accuracy [be right the first time!]. We expect to gain even more efficiency by introducing simplified processes and putting information in the hands of the people that need it to make decisions.

This upgrade opens the door for new and better things.

What supports will be made available for those impacted by the transition?

To help employees prepare for the upcoming changes and to help maintain productivity during the transition process, Human Resource Services are developing a number of options for training and support that will be made available to everyone starting September 26, 2016.

Details for these sessions are being finalized, and will be shared in early September.
