Have you met Justin, sessional instructor (Art and Design) and career coach with the Career Centre? Spend the next 2 minutes getting to know him a little better.

When I was a master’s student it was probably the 2nd floor of Rutherford, because I used to take naps at the cubicles.

Now that I’m in SUB the majority of the time, it would be the new atrium area. I love the large, open space.

Paper — but I have to have an erasable pen. Always.

I bring a lot of green stuff. I have an affinity for green. I used to have a communal office, and it was an explosion of green, and everyone was a bit overwhelmed. So now I keep it calm — it’s not overbearing.

Erasable pens. That’s what I always have in my pockets.

I have a fascination with really cold places, so I’d probably go to Alert, which is in Nunavut. It’s the northernmost inhabited community in the world. I’m always interested in cold, isolated places. I think it’s fascinating that people would expose themselves to that sort of environment.

Buddha. I meditate every day, and I follow some different Buddhist traditions. I’ve been practising mindfulness meditation for about 10 years now, and I integrate it into a lot of my work.

That’s hard, because I’ve had a lot of different jobs [on campus]. I teach as a sessional instructor in Design, and I’ve worked various roles in the Career Centre. I’d love to teach a course related to mindfulness and creativity, so maybe teaching in Education?

It’s about building a sense of unity and community by empowering people to reach their full potential.

Helping people recognize self-imposed barriers within their lives. We create these barriers which prevent us from being creative, taking risks, etc. I have a very strong belief that every human is inherently creative, and I think we sometimes get in our own way.

Engaging. Involved. Rich with opportunity.
