The University of Alberta banner is flying at half-mast in remembrance of Dr. Sumit 'Me2' Majumdar Professor in the Department of Medicine (Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry) and Adjunct Professor in both the School of Public Health and the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Dr. Sumit 'Me2' Majumdar passed away on January 19, 2018.
Me2 was a well-respected and acclaimed clinician-scientist in the Division of General Internal Medicine within the Department of Medicine. He graduated from the University of Alberta School of Medicine in 1992 and was a Professor in the Department of Medicine, held a Patient Health Management Chair and was a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
His inter-disciplinary research involved complex medical conditions such as osteoporosis, diabetes, hypertension, heart and lung diseases and obesity. He held funding from Alberta Innovates, CIHR and many other peer-reviewed organizations.
Me2 was a successful author with over 300 peer-reviewed manuscripts, was widely cited and a sought-after speaker. As a mentor, he helped train future clinicians, researchers and clinician-scientists, and his contributions to academic life at the University of Alberta extended into many different Divisions, Departments, and Faculties. Most of all, he was a husband, a father, a son, a friend and a colleague to many; his connections to the people and community of Edmonton were extensive. He will be greatly missed by trainees, colleagues and collaborators throughout the University of Alberta and beyond.
Our deepest sympathies are extended to his wife (Dr. Anisa Khaliq), children, and extended family. Further details regarding funeral arrangements will be available shortly.
Sincerely,
Dennis Kunimoto, MD, FRCPC
