September at the University of Alberta always brings a lot of excitement. And with Green and Gold Day fast approaching, here is some inspo and advice to help you prepare (and a recap of last year's Green and Gold Parade win by the Faculty of Science).

"It's poetry in motion"

"All {the} tubes and wires"

It's amazing what can be created with simple materials such as pipe cleaners, some glue, and other craft materials. Add little props such as test tubes and you're golden.

It IS rocket science

It's a bird… it's a plane… no, it's a rocket ship! Golf carts are not only great to attract attention at the parade, they can also be transformed in to anything. All you need is your imagination (a Google search helps, too).

Add bubbles, when possible

… because who doesn't love popping them?

What is the science behind popping bubbles? Other than being poked or landing on something sharp, bubbles pop when the water between the soap film surfaces evaporates. Fun fact: Bubbles can last longer on colder days because those molecules take longer to leave.

Don't be a dinosaur - have some fun

Some friendly competition always keeps things interesting. Last year, Guba was a little jealous of Debby the Dino and attempted to slow her down. Watch out, Guba… the science mascot will be back for a duel this year.

Shoot for the stars!

Getting to keep the coveted Green and Gold Cup for one year isn't the only prize - the trophy also comes with green and gold UAlberta M&M's.

Good luck, and see you at the Green & Gold Parade!
