Have you met Donnell, an advisor in the Office of Safe Disclosure and Human Rights? Spend a few minutes getting to know her a little bit better.

What is your first U of A memory?

My first memory is attending a volleyball camp in the Butterdome during the summer of Grade 8. I thought “butter” and “dome” were very accurate words to describe the building, haha! It was a fun big-city experience as a teenager, especially coming from a small northern community.

What’s something your coworkers don’t know about you?

I have an intense fear surrounding mice, squirrels or any rodent that moves quickly and unpredictably. And, that if my coworkers meet with me before 9 a.m., I will only remember half of the meeting.

What’s your favourite distraction?

Going for walks with my dog, reading and, although it pains me to admit this, occasionally watching really bad reality TV shows.

If you were enrolling in one course, program or degree right now, what would it be?

Probably a law degree or an art history course.

What’s a weird pet peeve you have?

Hmm… when a restaurant or coffee shop is too noisy or echoey.

If you could see any live performance tomorrow, what would it be?

Arcade Fire put on an amazing show when I last saw them in Edmonton and I would love to see them again… or Rihanna.

What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

It will all work out and enjoy the journey — don’t stress so much about the destination and all of the “should be’s.”

What’s one thing you can’t live without?

Coffee. It brings me immense joy and enables me to function at 9 a.m. I also have to mention my dog, Molly, who has been an amazing work from home colleague (minus the snoring during my meetings).

What three words describe your U of A experience?

Change. Opportunities. Challenges.
