Have you met Pam Averill, Senior HR Service Partner supporting the College of Health Sciences in Human Resources, Health, Safety and Environment? Spend a few minutes getting to know her a little better.
What is your first U of A memory?
My first day as a student I remember being overwhelmed by the size of the campus. I was convinced there was no way I could make the journey between Tory and ETLC in the ten minutes between classes.
My first day as an employee brought back student memories as I worked in University Terrace, the same building where I took HR classes through the Faculty of Extension.
What’s something your coworkers don’t know about you?
I completed my level 1 Award/Certification in wine tasting in February 2019. I plan to complete level II once the course is available.
What’s your favourite distraction?
Books — reading is what I do to relax and unwind. I read 50–60 books a year. Two authors I currently enjoy are Taylor Jenkins Reid and Richard Osman.
If you were enrolling in one course, program or degree right now, what would it be?
A certification in change management.
What’s a weird pet peeve you have?
When people say irregardless.
You can invite anyone — alive or dead, real or fictional — to dinner. Who would it be?
My best friend Nicole. We have been friends for 25 years but have not had many opportunities to connect in person during the pandemic, and due to our schedules. It would be great to connect, and I am sure we will once the time is right.
If you could see any live performance tomorrow, what would it be?
Adele in Las Vegas.
What advice would you give your 18-year-old self?
Travel, see the world and be open to new experiences.
What’s one thing you can’t live without?
My phone.
What three words describe your U of A experience?
Opportunity, change, growth.
