I am very pleased to announce the reappointment of Jennifer Tupper as the Dean of the Faculty of Education for a second five-year term from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2027.
Under Dr. Tupper’s leadership, the Faculty of Education has solidified its status as one of the top ranked Faculties of Education in Canada and the world, built on a long history of excellence in research, teaching and learning, and service to students and to the wider community. In addition to educating high-quality teachers, librarians, psychologists, and other professionals, the impact of the Faculty’s researchers in the areas of educational policy, pedagogy and curriculum, counseling, clinical and school psychology, and library and information studies continues to be profound and far-reaching.
Dr. Tupper’s commitment to the work of truth and reconciliation, and to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusivity have been demonstrated during her tenure through initiatives such as the expansion of the Aboriginal Teacher Education Program (ATEP) and the creation of the Student Advisory Committee for Advancing Racial Justice. Her focus on continuous improvement of the student experience is reflected in the undergraduate program review and renewal, the expansion of undergraduate research opportunities, and tireless support for graduate scholarship and research.
Dean Tupper is an engaged university community member in the Faculty of Education and beyond, such as during her time co-chairing the United Way campaign from 2019-2022. She also oversaw the creation of the Faculty’s strategic plan, Education for the Public Good, which enshrined the values of transparency, collaboration, mutual care and respect within the Faculty. She will continue to expand relationships with education stakeholders locally, provincially and nationally through active involvement with organizations such as the Association of Canadian Deans of Education.
