On Tuesday, Sept. 20, President Bill Flanagan joined honoured guests and colleagues for a reception welcoming students and scholars who have been displaced by the war in Ukraine.
This year the U of A welcomed more than more than 80 new students and scholars from Ukraine as a result of the support provided to students during the war in Ukraine.
The University of Alberta has strong ties with Ukraine and it is because of the support of our staff, faculty, students and donors that our community can welcome these students and scholars.
"I am inspired by each one of you, you have all summoned tremendous courage to be here. You have travelled a challenging path and I think of the pressures you face with what is happening – and has happened – during the war in Ukraine.
I want you to know that all of us in this room with you tonight are a reminder that you are not alone. You have a community that stands with you, supports you, and cares for you."
