The University of Alberta banner is flying at half-mast from December 15-18, 2022 in remembrance of Dr. Stephen Harvey, Professor Emeritus, Department of Physiology/Endocrinology, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.

Dr. Stephen Harvey sadly passed away on July 2, 2020 in Edmonton, Alberta. He was born on December 15, 1951 to Raymond and Marjorie Harvey. He was from the small port town of Goole, England. Attending University, being born from Goole was a rarity. Steve not only went to Leeds University, completing his Bachelor of Science July 15, 1974 He also completed his PHD in Physiology on December 15, 1977 and finally his DSc in 2005. He worked in his field as a lecturer at The University of Hull from 1977-1984. He then Immigrated to Canada and worked at the University of Alberta from 1986-2018 as a Full Professor of Physiology (Endocrinology) as well as Associate Chair of Education. During his lifetime, Steve had 362 publications, including his book entitled Growth Hormones which was published on December 27, 1994. During his career, Steve taught innumerable students, was a member of various committees and was very proud of his work at the U of A.

Steve also had a number of activities that he was involved in. He developed a love of scuba diving, a highlight for him was Scuba Diving in the Red Sea during his time spent in Israel. Steve loved to run and competed in many marathons, triathlons and even competed in the Iron Man Triathlon. Whatever he set his mind to do, he could do it and do it well!

He was loved and adored by his entire family. He was a fantastic father and grandfather, and a beloved husband. Steve always put his family first. He is very missed, but his humor, determination and kindness will never be forgotten and lives on in his family.

He is survived by his wife Christine, Children: Sarah, Lindsay, Laura, Leah and Callum, his sons in Law: Chris, Andrew, Drew, Mykenzie and by all of his 10 Grandchildren. He is also survived by his Brother Trevor and sister Christine.
