Every day, more than 13,000 talented faculty and staff work tirelessly to make the University of Alberta a world-class institution of research and learning. As we identified in Shape: A Strategic Plan of Impact, our talented people form the cornerstone of the university. Our people are our greatest strength – without our people, the U of A wouldn’t be a beacon for the best and brightest minds from Alberta and around the world.
That’s why we’re committed to the creation of the university’s inaugural People Strategy. Learning from the results of the recent 2023 Faculty and Staff Engagement Survey, the strategy will provide a roadmap to a culture and environment that supports our people to do their best work while — just as importantly — thriving personally and in their careers.
We’re currently in Phase 1 of the People Strategy, which includes community consultations and an online form so staff across the organization can share their feedback. The People Strategy is a plan for our people, informed by our people, so we encourage participation in the consultation process. Early in 2024, we will report back to the community on what we’ve heard and the themes that are emerging.
We have also established a steering committee to help guide the work. The committee — which we co-chair — includes leaders at all levels across the university, as well as front-line faculty and staff.
People are the foundation for all of our future success. Shape sets out ambitious goals for the next decade, but we can’t achieve these goals without the trust and support of faculty, staff and students.
Thank you for working with us to build a community and culture we can all be proud of.
