From the President's Desk: Celebrating Pride Week 2025

Everyone is welcome as we celebrate and recognize the rights and achievements of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

You can wear your Pride with a newly designed T-shirt from the U of A bookstore. All proceeds support the non-profit Fyrefly Institute for Gender and Sexual Diversity.

I am proud of the University of Alberta community’s dedication to building a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment for everyone. Integral to that commitment is Pride Week, where we celebrate and honour the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

This year, we celebrate Pride Week from March 10 to 18 and welcome students from Edmonton post-secondary institutions as part of the YEG Campus Pride Network. As a proud member of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, I look forward to the events, including the Pride Parade, the week’s official launch on March 10.

Pride Week is when we reflect on the progress we’ve made as a society while continuing to advocate for those who still face discrimination. This week is a powerful reminder of the community's role in driving positive change that can make our world safer and more just. You’ll also see that Pride Week is also a lot of fun with diverse activities, such as the drag show and resource fair.

The week is a collaboration between the campus community, partners and the Fyrefly Institute for Gender and Sexual Diversity, a non-profit organization housed at the U of A that has advocated and supported the 2SLGBTQ+ community and its allies for over 20 years. Thank you to Glynnis Lieb, executive director of Fyrefly and the entire team for your commitment. Thank you to the U of A community for your ongoing support.

Everyone is welcome at the Pride Week events and activities. I hope to see you at the parade.
