Marlena (she/her) is in her third year of English and History major in the Faculty of Arts. Originally from Vancouver, Marlena joined the U of A from B.C. last year; however, her family is originally from Germany. She plans to study in the After Degree Education program to become a teacher once she completes her BA. Outside of school, she is a busy bee dedicating her time to volunteering and work. Marlena escapes the buzz by taking time to read, listen to music, walk her three dogs, watch movies and discover Edmonton’s cafe scene. She prefers Rutherford South for its quiet atmosphere and historical architecture.

December is here, and my favourite holiday season will soon be in full swing! Every year, I like to spend weekends doing something festive to lead up to the winter holidays. Not only is it great to get excited for getting in the holiday mood, but it's also a great excuse to unwind and de-stress as finals season approaches.

Here are some events I'll be looking forward to this December.

This Show is Trash

  • Until Dec.14
  • FAB Gallery, FAB 1-1, Fine Arts Building, North Campus

The U of A's Fine Arts Building (FAB) Gallery offers an opportunity to view contemporary art and design created by two U of A alumni. The show hosts a captivating exhibition demonstrating Tanya Klimp's work that explores themes of waste and repurposing through vivid, experimental composition in painting. While complementing Klimp's work, Darcy Fraser Macdonald's pieces exhibit delves into intermedia art forms, investigating sustainability and the life cycle of materials. The event is free to the public, making it a perfect destination for art enthusiasts like me as well as casual visitors.
