Employer FAQ

This FAQ has been developed to address common questions and concerns from our employer partners about the Engineering Co-op Program. This page will be updated as additional information becomes available.

The Engineering Co-op Office is here to help. If your question or concern is not addressed here please contact us.

Is the Co-op Office open?

The Co-op Office is open for staff and students. The Co-op team continues to work remotely and in office to provide assistance to co-op students and employers. With the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, all recruitment activities will continue to be conducted virtually at this time.

The best way to contact our team continues to be via email or phone. Our employer partners may contact their Employer Relationship Manager (ERM) directly for assistance. If you do not have an ERM, please email our office at HireEngineering@ualberta.ca

It is late in the recruitment process. Can we still hire students?

Yes! We are always placing students.

Winter Work Term job postings (January - mid February start) will be added until early February

Summer Work Term job postings (May - mid June start) will be added until early June

Fall Work Term job postings (September to mid October start) will be added until early October

To hire a student, post your opportunities in campusBRIDGE or contact your Employer Relationship Manager (ERM) for more information/assistance. If you do not have an ERM, please email our office at HireEngineering@ualberta.ca

We are unsure of our hiring plans right now, is there any flexibility in hiring timelines? Is it possible to hire students into a part-time role?

Students are required to work a minimum of 35 hrs/week, 12 weeks and/or 420 hours of full-time, paid experience.

Employers who are uncertain if their opportunities meet the minimum work term placement requirements are encouraged to reach out to their Employer Relationship Manager (ERM) as exceptions may be considered for opportunities that closely meet the requirements defined above.

What are our options for holding interviews?

Interviews are being held virtually or over the telephone.

We ask that our Employer Partners schedule all interviews in campusBRIDGE. Please allow a minimum of 2 business days for review and approval of your schedule by our office. Employer resources are available to assist you to do so under the Engineering Co-op module once you are logged in to campusBRIDGE. If you have any questions about interviews, or would like assistance in setting them up, please contact your Employer Relationship Manager (ERM). If you do not have an ERM, please email our office at HireEngineering@ualberta.ca

How will evaluation requirements for the term be completed?

We are conducting onsite visits virtually or over the telephone.

The End of Term Evaluation is now completed within campusBRIDGE. Supervisors will be emailed a unique link for each co-op student towards the end of each 4 month work term (e.g.: an 8-month term would require 2 of these to be completed). If a student will be leaving a job earlier than the last 2 weeks prior to the end of April, August or December, please let your co-op onsite contact know and we can send the link earlier.

Questions about evaluations? Please contact the Program Advisor or Employer Relationship Manager who conducted the onsite evaluation meeting.
