About Edmonton Camps

Registration for Summer 2020 camps is now open!

At DiscoverE’s award-winning camps, participants complete exciting projects and challenges across engineering, science, technology and math. From our gripping general science camps to our thrilling theme camps, there is fun science waiting for everyone! Our instructors are undergraduate and graduate students who act as mentors in higher education. Some of our instructors were originally DiscoverE campers themselves!

Our Edmonton camps are run on University of Alberta's North Campus. Camp hours are from 9:00am to 4:00pm and early drop-off occurs from 8:00am to 9:00am while late pick-up is from 4:00pm to 5:00pm. All camps cost $275, except for camp weeks with a statutory holiday, which cost $225. Partial and full bursaries are available for youth in need. Our camps are designed for the stated grade ranges - please do not register your child in a camp outside their grade range. The grades listed indicate the grades the campers will start in September 2020.

On the last day of every camp, parents have the chance to come to campus and check out what their kids have been working on all week in our Open House!

If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact our office. Please familiarize yourself with DiscoverE's camp policies.

Génie biomédicale 6-7

DiscoverE is excited to be back at Campus Saint-Jean with our camps in French! We are offering AnatoME and Biomedical Engineering 6-7. The camps will be hosted at Campus Saint-Jean in Edmonton from July 6 to 10, 2020 with the same hours as our North Campus camps.

French is the language used during these camps, so all campers must be comfortable in that language. The camps are open to campers with French as their first language and campers in French immersion.

Back by popular demand! We are partnering with Mobile Escape with brand new camp themes! Campers get ready! At Mobile Escape summer camp, not only will campers get to solve 2 escape room challenges, they will get a chance to build their own, and challenge friends and family to try and solve it! This fun-filled, hands-on summer camp engages campers in a variety of creative disciplines: from visual art to 3D design, music and story writing, building and making, and more! Not to mention the difficult but rewarding task of encoding and decoding tricky clues. Using creativity and imagination, campers will be challenged as they learn to work together, contributing their unique gifts and strengths to the project. This one-of-a-kind week culminates in a showcase where friends and family will get to try out the escape room made by the campers.

Campers complete Mobile Escape puzzles on the first day. They then brainstorm, blueprint, design, build and refine an escape room before showcasing the completed product Friday afternoon. Campers work in teams to complete all aspects of the escape room, including story, rules, audio elements, videos, lighting, technical wiring and programming, design construction, artwork, decor, promotions and showcase.

This year we are running two camps concurrently - Team Green and Team Gold. Space is limited so sign up today!

Camp Descriptions

The grades listed indicate the grades the campers will start in September 2020.

Grade 1

New Scientists

It is never too early to start learning about science! Young scientists will explore the world all around us with a glimpse into engineering, chemistry, environmental science and more!

Example Project: Campers will explore static electricity by making a tissue paper butterfly's wings flap using a balloon.

Scientists-In-Training

There is always more to explore! Through fascinating hands-on projects, the scientists-in-training will discover engineering, biology and more!

Example Project: Campers will make their own garden in an egg carton. They will learn about plant cycles and what a plant needs in order to survive.

Grades 2–3

Aquatic Discoveries

Discover the underwater world! Campers will dive into the mysteries of both fresh and salt water by exploring the biology of fish, aquatic organisms and marine mammals.

Example Project: Campers will explore the different types of fish that live in the deep sea and the modifications they have that allow them to survive by designing their own bioluminescent deep sea creature.

Engineering Discoveries

Discover the world of engineering! Campers will learn about all the different fields of engineering and how engineering has shaped our world. If you attended this camp last year, don't worry! A brand new set of exciting projects will be waiting for you!

Example Project: Campers will test their civil engineering skills by building the tallest tower they can out of straws that can support a tennis ball on top.
