Dear Campers and Parents,
We are excited – and know you are too – for the start of summer camp season, which is now just a few weeks away. Performing crazy experiments, playing fun games, and completing challenging activities are just a few of the many things that await you at camp. If you’re returning for another year, we are thrilled to have you back and can’t wait to see you again. As always, we aim to provide your child with a fun, exciting, and rewarding learning experience. Campers will have an exciting time creating, building, and testing projects in order to learn all about engineering, science, and technology. They can look forward to brand new challenges, and to meeting lots of great friends and inspiring mentors! This is your camp welcome package and it will hopefully answer all of your questions. If you would like more information, we would be delighted to hear from you! Please give us a call at (780) 492-8779, or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Special and Medical Needs
If your camper has any special needs or allergies, please let us know so that we can help to accommodate them. If there is anything important you may have left off the registration form, you can let us know by phoning or sending us a quick email before the start the camp. We will do our best to ensure that everyone has a safe and fun time! For campers who have EpiPens, we require that you read and complete our EpiPen consent form. You can fill out this form on the first day of camp, or print it out at home to bring with you.
Camp starts at 9:00am and ends at 4:00pm. Supervision is available from 8:00am to 5:00pm at no extra cost. If you are late and pick up your camper after 5:00pm, there will be a charge of $1 per minute.
Campers can be dropped off and picked up in front of the Engineering Teaching and Learning Complex (ETLC). In case of rain or smoke, we will be inside ETLC in E1-001. Photo ID is required for pick up.
Please remember to SIGN IN and SIGN OUT your child with his/her instructor at the beginning and end of the camp so that we can keep track of your child’s whereabouts and ensure that they are not lost!
Friday Fun Day!
On Friday, all DiscoverE camps will combine to complete a camp-wide science and engineering challenge, along with fun physical activities outdoors! Campers will also get the chance to meet a professional scientist or engineer mentor (depending on availability) or tour the Faculty of Engineering's cutting edge labs and facilities.
At the end of Friday Fun Day, there will be an exciting Open House for parents and guardians! Attendees should meet inside the front doors of the Engineering Teaching and Learning Complex (ETLC) at 3:45pm. Campers will have a chance to showcase the projects they have worked on that week, along with a photo slideshow and an exciting science demonstration! Please arrive by 4:00pm at the latest to ensure that you don't miss the show. If the theatre reaches capacity, we may run a second show if there is sufficient demand.
Campers will need to bring their own lunch every day. Please do NOT bring microwaveable lunches because we have very limited access to microwaves.
For the safety of all children with allergies, no nuts or nut products are to be brought to camp.
What to Wear
The weather often changes throughout the day. Please ensure your campers are prepared for all weather with a hat, sunscreen, bug spray, a sweater, and other gear you feel is necessary! Comfortable shoes are a must. All campers will also receive a free DiscoverE T-shirt!
If you wish to park to drop your child off, please use the Windsor Car Park, on 116th St and 92. Ave. Windsor Car Park is just north of the drop off location. DiscoverE is not responsible for any parking tickets issued. You will be sent a customized parking permit that is valid for 30 minutes of drop-off and pick-up time, and 1.5 hours on Friday for the open house. You need to print the pass at home to display on your dashboard.
If you are arriving late, after 9:00am, please escort them to their classroom. If you do not know the location of their classroom, please bring them to the DiscoverE Office on the second floor of the Donadeo Innovation Centre for Engineering, 9211 - 116 St NW. If possible, please call the office at (780) 492-8779 to let us know you will be late and for directions.
In order to ensure the health and safety of all DiscoverE campers and staff, we reserve the right to send sick campers home. Any camper displaying flu like symptoms including headache, chills, cough followed by fever, loss of appetite, nausea, diarrhea, muscle aches and fatigue, runny nose, watery eyes and sore throat may be asked to leave camp. When symptoms are first noticed, the instructors will notify parents and disclose our sick camper policy. The camper will usually be allowed to remain at camp, likely in the sick bay for the rest of the work day until the parent/guardian can pick them up. If the camper returns to camp the following day and continues to display symptoms of a contagious flu virus, DiscoverE will phone the parent and ask them to remove the camper and withdraw from camp for the remainder of the week. If DiscoverE sends a camper home when less than half the camp week has been completed a full refund will be issued. If more than half the camp has been completed (Thursday morning and onward), a 50% refund will be issued.
By checking off the photo consent permission on the registration form, you give DiscoverE and/our partners permission to take photos or videos (digital or otherwise) of your child and to reproduce the likeness of your child (no names to be used) in promotional materials, including brochures and audio-visual productions. If you would like to withdraw consent, you may do so any time by emailing email@example.com
