The nanoFAB is a centralized, open access research and development facility specializing in micro and nano scale fabrication and characterization - the largest of its kind in Canada. The nanoFAB is committed to supporting academic and industrial innovation from design through characterization, transitioning ideas into real-world innovations and prototypes. The facility provides training, services and access to $85M in specialized equipment and infrastructure including a comprehensive suite of 200 tools for nano-science and engineering.(www.nanofab.ualberta.ca).
Our faculty works collaboratively with the National Research Council of Canada on the Nanotechnology Initiative, conducting leading-edge interdisciplinary research with its researchers in engineering, science, medicine and more.
The Oil Sands Tailings Research Facility, located in Devon, Alberta, is a facility designed to support substantial fundamental tailings research at a pilot scale (600 and 2000 kg solids per hour) and accommodate multiple, concurrent interdisciplinary research projects. (www.ostrf.com)
The Peter S. Allen Magnetic Resonance Research Centre, part of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, is a 100-per-cent research dedicated, state-of-the-art MRI facility located inside the University Hospital. Recently expanded through a $17.5 M grant anchored by the Canada Foundation for Innovation, the Centre houses 1.5 T, 3 T and 4.7 T full-body MRI systems (www.invivonmr.ualberta.ca).
