The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) is a government agency whose mandate is to facilitate discovery and innovation through the funding of research. NSERC, over the past ten years, has funded over $7 billion worth of research. By funding this research, NSERC fosters collaboration between industry and postsecondary institutions.

Industrial Research Chair (IRC) program

The NSERC Industrial Research Chair (IRC) program fosters leading-edge and groundbreaking research within Canadian universities. IRCs are awarded to professors considered to be at the forefront of research and innovation in their respective fields.

The NSERC Industrial Research Chair in the Industrialization of Building Construction was awarded to Dr. Mohamed Al-Hussein in 2011. The principal focus of the chair is to industrialize the construction process through collaborative research between the university research team and a consortium of industry partners.
