This research area focuses on the study of building envelope and mechanical systems, with projects addressing various topics within the domain of building science: (1) assembled wall systems are experimented with to investigate the thermal conductance of different wall systems, utilizing sensor technology; (2) the respective energy efficiency of space heating and cooling furnace, ventilator, and hot water tank is studied; (3) open-loop and closed-loop water systems are studied to improve water supply efficiency for building design; (4) different means of energy generation from renewable resources, such as solar PV systems and geothermal systems, are analyzed; and (5) with the application of highly energy-efficient building envelope and mechanical systems, the energy performance is analyzed and optimized for NetZero-energy building design.
