Summary: The impact of currently growing aging population demands special considerations in terms of architectural design. This research has contributed to elder friendly design through constructing a home architectural design assessment that reduces the risk of falling for older adults. This was accomplished using integrated evidence-based analysis that is incorporated into a simulation model as a tool to facilitate the home design optimization. The model has been successfully applied on residential staircases and has counted for a significant improvement in the probability of falling risk reduction for older adults.
