Teaching and Supervision

During her time at the University of Alberta, Dr. Robinson Fayek has mentored 60 graduate students, 20 undergraduate research assistants, and 14 postdoctoral fellows through to the successful completion of their respective programs. Each year, she has typically supervised eight to ten graduate students and one to two postdoctoral fellows. As a result of her support, most of her Ph.D. students have graduated within four years, and most of her M.Sc. students graduate within two years. In addition, Dr. Robinson Fayek also oversees the work of two to three undergraduate students per year on research projects that are facilitated by Mitacs Globalink Research Internships, the University of Alberta's Computer Science Co-op Program, the Dean's Research Award, the NSERC Undergraduate Summer Research Award, and the Summer Temporary Employment Program. Many students who have worked as undergraduate research assistants have gone on to pursue postgraduate studies.

Through the projects supported by Dr. Robinson Fayek’s NSERC IRC program, students are able to interact directly with organizational representatives; this exposure provides students with specialized training, a nuanced insight into the Canadian construction industry, and the opportunity to pursue truly innovative avenues for scientific inquiry. More specifically, each graduate student spends a period of time interning at a partner organization to carry out research and data collection, thus gaining an in-depth understanding of how construction organizations function and how they execute their projects. In addition to deriving insight from industry leaders, students benefit from valuable networking and professional development opportunities.
