Interviewing on Campus

An efficient way for your company to assess the University of Alberta Engineering candidates that you short-list for your advertised position is to conduct on campus interviews. Our Employment Coordinators help facilitate the on campus interview process for you by:

  • Reserving one of the two interview rooms located in the EEC,
  • Handling the logistics of booking the students (you let us know the interview time slots, and we schedule the students), and
  • Coordinating a pre-or post-interview candidate briefing session (if necessary).

If your company has any special requirements related to your interview process, please let us know and we will try to accommodate them if possible.

In addition to face-to-face interviews, the EEC can also assist you in arranging telephone or SKYPE interviews. Contact us to find out more.

Interview Rooms

We have two offices available within the EEC for your use during our regular office hours. In addition, we have access to booking a number of interview suites located on the sixth floor of the Engineering Teaching and Learning Complex (ETLC).

All rooms are provided free of charge and are reserved on a first-come basis. We strive to accommodate all requests, but encourage employers to book early (at least 45 days in advance) to avoid disappointment during key recruitment periods.

Interview Scheduling

If you provide us with a list of your short-listed candidates and the preferred interview time slot length, we can contact our students and alumni and schedule them in. As soon as all of the candidates are booked we email you the confirmed interview schedule. While we have been able to schedule interviews within relatively short turnaround periods, we strongly recommend that employers provide us with the list of candidates they would like to interview a minimum of five business days in advance.

Depending on a number of factors (style of interview, number of interviewers, number of candidates, etc.), employers may opt to have interview time slots that are as short as 15 minutes, or as long as an hour-and-a-half.

If you will be interviewing six or more individuals, you may find benefit in holding a pre- or post-interview candidate briefing session to provide all the information on your company and answer the candidates' general questions. This can save your interviewers significant time, in that they only need to share information on the company one time. For additional information see Information Sessions.

Please note that we are only able to arrange interviews for students and alumni of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Alberta.
