ENGL 103 X51: Cultural Encounters

J. Lim

This course will examine a variety of perspectives on cultural encounters through a selection of literary texts. Our class will focus on literatures in English from twentieth century to contemporary times. We will engage in careful reading of texts, while at the same time working to draw out some of the issues and contemporary concerns and suggest avenues for research and writing. In addition to reading and discussing literary texts, we will consider how writers, filmmakers, and cultural go-betweens shape or influence our perceptions of groups and individuals.
