ENGL 339 A2: Early Modern Literature and Culture: Studies in Shakespeare

R. Prusko

This course will survey Shakespeare's work. We will read seven plays, representative of Shakespeare's comedies, tragedies, histories, romances, and Roman plays, along with a sampling of sonnets. Our study of these texts will emphasize careful literary analysis; we will also consider their historical contexts and cultural significance in Shakespeare's time and ours, and apply literary theory where relevant. We will also engage in debates and dramatizations of scenes.
