WRITE 298 is an introductory class in writing nonfiction prose ("true stories well told"). Students can expect to write and to read a wide range of literary nonfiction, from informal writing to the more formal academic essay. Students will try out a range of techniques and strategies (from invention to research to revision) valuable to nonfiction writers. There are no examinations in this course. Six essays of varying length will be assigned.

a) master grammar and punctuation
b) learn editing skills
c) learn to write (in) scenes
d) learn to write concisely and elegantly
e) learn to incorporate research into nonfiction writing
f) learn to make the point of your essay compelling.
