WRITE 399 A2: Projects in Genre: Producing Narrative Across Media and Culture

R. Cobb

The course is intended as both a survey of nonfiction narratives, as well as a laboratory for student projects in print, digital, and audio media. Students will analyze important works in radio and video documentary, magazine journalism, and spoken word performance from the past half century in order to understand artistic conventions, media ethics, and best practices. The end product of the course will be a substantial work of media production of the student's choosing, to be decided in consultation with the instructor. Final projects might involve a multi-part podcast on local history, a short documentary film, or a long form magazine article.
