The Cécile E. Mactaggart Travel Award 2018

English Major student Kristen Thomas wins $ 12,000 Travel Award

30 May 2019

English Major Kristen Thomas wins the The Cécile E. Mactaggart Travel Award for Narrative Writing, worth $12,000. The Mactaggart Award was established with a gift from local philanthropist Dr. Cécile E. Mactaggart to award excellent narrative writing and to acknowledge the importance of travel to life-long learning. Thomas's winning essay, "Pictured - Portrait of the Artist," narrates her study abroad experience in France. With ironic playfulness, she retells the clichéd story of the young artist going to Paris to find themselves. Only hers has a twist. Read it here.
The timing of the win could not be better. Thomas graduates with an English Major and Creative Writing minor in June. She can launch her post-university life with another incredible travel experience. Congratulations, Kristen!
