Everything to lose

Why securing shared space is everyone's responsibility.

08 April 2019

During routine security checks in 2018, UAPS discovered 37 shared spaces that had been left unlocked.

Shared spaces are common at the university. Many are facilities shared by multiple research groups and contain equipment, hazardous materials, and computers with research findings, irreplaceable data, and confidential files.

It's tempting to think that others should be responsible for securing the space. Ultimately, however, the room is only as secure as the last person who enters or exits.

Always close and lock doors to shared spaces and ensure that all occupants are equipped with a key or code to unlock the door.
