Fellowships & Grants

The EUCE strives to create linkages between the European Union and Canada and  participant groups of academics and Institutes at the University of Alberta. As a result, a focus of the Centre of Excellence is to provide various opportunities to visit, study and teach on issues as they relate to the European Union through the unique fellowship, grant and internship programs.

Research grants for short term visiting scholars from the EU

Inward visiting researcher grants are available for visiting researchers from EU member states for visits of up to 1 month. Up to $3,300 is available in mobility and accommodation grants. The research program should be related to one of the academic themes of the European Union Centre of Excellence. Visiting scholars are expected to contribute to the academic activities of the EUCE.

Applications are due November 15, 2015 for visits between January 1 and June 30, 2016.

 

Postdoctoral research fellowship

In the 2015-16 academic year, the EUCE will offer a postdoctoral fellowship for a researcher from a European Union institution to conduct research at the University of Alberta. The research should be related to one of the academic themes of the EUCE. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to contribute to the academic activities of the EUCE. The fellowship is worth approximately $54,000.

EU study tour and internships

The University of Alberta is one of twelve Canadian universities that are network members the European Union Study Tour and internship program, coordinated by Capilano University. Details can be found at http://www.capilanou.ca/europa/

U of A students in the study tour spend three weeks in Europe attending seminars at the European Parliament, the Commission, the European Court of Justice and the European Central Bank, taught by officials from those institutions. Students can apply for internships through the Study Tour. In the past, our students have held internships at Canadian embassies in Europe, the European Parliament, the International Organization for Migration, NGOs, think tanks and media outlets.

The EU Centre of Excellence will award three stipends of up to $430 for students participating in the Study Tour and one stipend of up to $725 for internships.

Applications for the study tour and internship stipends are due on March 1, 2016.
