Let's Celebrate!

  • Friday, Sept. 13, 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
  • Quad, U of A North Campus

Green and Gold Day is the U of A’s premier school spirit event, celebrating the people who make the U of A the vibrant, involved and innovative community that it is—students, faculty, staff and alumni. It features a parade, pep rally, barbecue, dodgeball and other festive activities that uplift and connect the university community near and far.

Green and Gold?

The University of Alberta has been the home of green and gold since Oct. 13, 1908. That's the day the university’s Senate (which used to function like our modern day Board of Governors) officially adopted the colours—all based on the suggestion of Marion Kirby Alexander. The green represents the wide stretches of prairie land flanked by deep spruce forests and is symbolic of hope and optimism. The gold represents the golden harvest fields and is symbolic of the light of knowledge. Plus, take a look at the river valley in the fall—it’s all green and gold!

Finding the Right Outfit

Hoodies are easy, can be worn with anything and have plenty of pockets to store swag. If you have a favourite green dress gold scarf, or green pants, wear them. Or go old school by breaking out a retro jacket or sweater.
