Let's Celebrate!

  • September 8-11, 2020

Green and Gold Day is the U of A's premier school spirit event, celebrating the people who make the U of A the vibrant, involved and innovative community that it is—students, faculty, staff and alumni. Although the format will be different this year, the spirit of lifting each other up remains more essential than ever. This year's celebration features online activities that uplift and connect the university community near and far.

Green and Gold?

The University of Alberta has been the home of green and gold since Oct. 13, 1908. That's the day the university's Senate (which used to function like our modern day Board of Governors) officially adopted the colours—all based on the suggestion of Marion Kirby Alexander. The green represents the wide stretches of prairie land flanked by deep spruce forests and symbolizes hope and optimism. The gold represents the golden harvest fields and symbolizes the light of knowledge. Plus, take a look at the river valley in the fall—it's all green and gold!

Green and Gold Inspiration

Now more than ever we need to lift each other up with a little dash of green and gold school spirit. For Green and Gold Days we're asking you to share a bit of inspiration for the whole campus community or for just one person who needs it.

Spread the green and gold cheer on your own social account by tagging @ualberta and come back to get a boast from others. The most uplifting will end up on our Instagram. Everyone who submits a little inspiration is entered to win a Green and Gold Days prize pack.
