Dr. Stinson was both the first nurse and the first woman to receive the Senior National Health Scientist Research Award, and she’s received Canada’s two highest nursing awards: the Ross Award in Nursing Leadership from the Canadian Nurses Foundation, and the Canadian Nurses Association’s Jeanne Mance Award. In addition to numerous lifetime memberships, she’s received the University of Minnesota Board of Regents’ Outstanding Achievement Award and Columbia University’s Distinguished Alumni Award. Dr. Stinson is the recipient of the Sir Frederick Haultian Prize in Humanities from the Government of Alberta; she was inducted into the Alberta Order of Excellence in 1999; and she was appointed the Order of Canada in 2001. This list only scratches the surface of the depth and breadth of Dr. Stinson’s reach – the real impact of which can only be felt in the millions of lives she’s touched.

Dr. Stinson’s commitment to research has profoundly inspired the work of our faculty to continue moving beyond the bounds of current knowledge. Shirley impacted many of us as individuals, nurses and scholars.

In homage to her visionary work as a researcher, you are invited to a celebration and to honour the lifelong Nursing impact of Dr. Shirley Stinson. The event will include tributes and stories that honour Shirley's Nursing experience and impact.

This event will be recorded and all tributes will be shared with the family.
