Spring cleaning afoot: Be mindful of mud puddles and U of A workers

The snow has melted and the muddy season is here, and with that, comes the need for spring cleaning!

This notice was originally published on April 6, 2023.

What

As the U of A grounds team and custodial staff work to keep campus clean and hazard-free, we ask for your patience and help with some of the following actions.

  1. Steer clear of workers or machinery
It’s greatly appreciated when you give the necessary space to U of A staff so they can work and clean.
  2. Follow guidance or instructions on any posted signage
Your vigilance and assistance following any posted signage is greatly appreciated.
  3. Use designated walking paths
Shortcuts are not always safe, especially when the seasons start to change. Designated walking paths are assessed throughout the working day for hazards to keep our community safe as they travel around U of A campus.
  4. Wipe your boots when you enter
Many of the entrances have a boot cleaner that you can use to keep your shoes clean and the floors clear, dry and hazard-free. If there isn’t a boot cleaner, do a little dance on the entrance mat to remove mud, dirt and other debris!
  5. Plan ahead and leave early
As usual, planning ahead and leaving early is always recommended. You never know when a pathway needs to be closed for staff to address an unexpected hazard.
  6. Conduct your own spring clean!
Have some extra trash and scraps? Take a trip to your central waste station and dispose of it in the proper receptacle. Learn more about recycling at U of A.
