Public Health Response Team (PHRT)
In the event of a public health emergency that threatens the University of Alberta community, the institution has a specific team of representatives that come together to formulate a coordinated response.
The Public Health Response Team is a subgroup that forms under the university’s formal crisis management team. It is co-chaired by the Director, Health, Safety and Environment and the university’s Assistant Dean, Health & Wellness. The composition of the team can be adjusted quickly based on the breadth and complexity of the health emergency, and can include senior representatives of numerous university units, including:
- External Relations
- Facilities Management
- Health, Safety & Environment
- Human Resource Services
- Office of the Dean of Students
- Office of the Registrar
- Residence Services
- University Health Centre
- University of Alberta International
The PHRT serves as a critical link between university administration and government health agencies and top officials. The team coordinates the institutional response and has the capacity to advise and direct critical operations across functions, including internal and external communications and media relations. The PHRT is positioned to escalate policy questions directly to the senior executive team and act rapidly to resolve complex issues that may arise from anywhere in the world.
