Dr. Arturo Sánchez-Azofeifa awarded a one-year Sir Frederick McMaster Fellowship. "McMaster Fellowships are awarded to distinguished overseas scientists and are only tenable in Australia in a CSIRO Division." Congratulations, Dr. Sánchez-Azofeifa!

Dr. Martin Sharp awarded Group Chair position in the NSERC Geosciences Evaluation Group. Congratulations, Dr. Sharp!

CEOS Hosts International Conference

CEOS, in conjuction with Ludwig Maximilians Universitat München, hosted an International Workshop on Wireless Sensor Networks and Data Mining August 11-12, 2011.

Arturo Sánchez-Azofeifa tapped for Remote Sensing of Environment Editorial Board.

Dr. Arturo Sánchez-Azofeifa will soon be a member of the editing board of the journal, Remote Sensing of Environment. Remote Sensing of Environment serves the remote sensing community with the publication of results on theory, science, applications and technology of remote sensing of Earth resources and environment. 

Martin Sharp Receives Editor's Citation for Excellence in Refereeing, Geophysical Research Letters

Dr. Martin Sharp, professor and Chair of the Earth and Atmospheric Sciences Department at the University of Alberta, was recommended by the editor Eric Rignot to receive the 2010 Editors’ Citation for Excellence in Refereeing for GRL. GRL is the Geophysical Research Letters, published by the American Geophysical Union (AGU).

NSF Honors Tropi-Dry!

"Thousands of hectares of tropical dry forests in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais are now safe from logging, thanks to scientists affiliated with a project called Tropi-Dry. Using information from Tropi-Dry, the members of the Superior Court of Minas Gerais unanimously overturned a state law that altered the status of more than 16,000 square kilometers (6,000 square miles) of tropical dry forests, leaving them unprotected. Loss of these forests would have posed a serious threat to biodiversity and ecosystem services..."
