Faculty and Staff

Trust/Research Academic Staff Appointed for Between 8 and 12 Months

Benefit Eligibility

Trust/Research Academic Staff

A staff member whose full-time appointment is for 8 months or longer will participate in the benefits program.

A staff member whose appointment is either 1) part-time or 2) full-time and less than 8 months in duration is not eligible for the benefit programs.   However in lieu of the benefit programs, the Trustholder will pay an amount equal to 3% of salary.

If a staff member has concurrent, multiple part-time academic research/trust appointments which together constitute a full-time equivalent, the staff member may be eligible for benefits. It is incumbent upon the staff member to inform his/her home department of any academic employment that would affect his/her eligibility for benefits, the cost for which would be pro-rated across departments.

In lieu of the benefit programs, the Trustholder will pay 3% of salary to a staff member whose appointment is part-time or is for less than 8 months in duration.

The cost of your pension and benefit plans makes up a significant portion of your total compensation as an employee of the University of Alberta.
