Other Leave: Academic Staff

Provided is a listing of the other leave provisions available to our various Academic Staff groups. These provisions include: Assisted Leave, Political Leave and Other Leave including Compassionate Care and Emergency Leave (CCEL)*.

Faculty

Assisted Leave Article 24.03-24.11

  • helps member pursue advanced graduate study
  • applications are made to Dean for approval. Employment Services should be copied on approval.
  • salary is 50% of pay, reduced by certain other income

Political Leave Article 24.12-24.15

  • unpaid leave to run for or hold political office
  • application should be submitted, with Chair's and Dean's recommendation, to the Provost, c/o Employment Services

Other Leaves Article 24.40-24.42

  • the provost may grant leave with pay, with partial pay, or without pay for prescribed periods and purposes
  • the provost may also approve secondments
  • application should be submitted to Chair, who forwards application with Chair's and Dean's recommendations to the Provost, c/o Employment Services

Faculty Service Officer (FSO)

Assisted Leave Article 9

  • up to one year leave to pursue educational or professional opportunity
  • salary may range from 50-100% of basic University salary
  • Provost approves based on Chair's and Dean's recommendations

Political Leave Article 24.03-24.09

  • as per Faculty

Assisted Leave Article 9

  • Up to six months leave to pursue educational or professional opportunity
  • salary is 80% of basic University salary (effect of outside assistance will be assessed)
  • Vice President approves based on Dean's or Director's recommendation

Political Leave Article 24.03-24.09

  • as per Faculty

Other LeavesArticle 24.33-24.35

  • Vice President may grant leave with pay, with partial pay, or without pay for prescribed periods and purposes
  • Vice President may also approve secondments (Article 24.38-24.33)
  • applications should be submitted to the Chair or Director, who forwards application with chair's and Dean's recommendations to the Vice President, c/o Employment Services
