Voluntary Winter Leave

The Voluntary Winter Leave Program offers eligible support staff and excluded staff unpaid leave before and/or after the 2019-2020 Winter Closure. The cost of the leave will be deducted over each pay period from January 1 through March 31, 2020.

You may request up to four unpaid leave days:

  • Monday, December 23, 2019
  • Tuesday, December 24, 2019
  • Thursday, January 2, 2020
  • Friday, January 3, 2020

These days fall immediately before and after the December 25, 2019 to January 1, 2020 winter closure.

How it works

If you choose to participate in the program, the cost will be deducted equally over each pay period from January 1, 2020 through March 31, 2020. The deduction amount will be based on the number of days taken, multiplied by your daily rate of pay and divided by the number of pay periods (six for support staff, three for excluded staff).

The deduction will not affect your benefits or pensionable earnings. Days taken as Voluntary Winter Leave are not recorded in your leave record in PeopleSoft HCM Time and Labour.
