Revised evaluation for merit increments for some academic staff during pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought to bear unanticipated and unprecedented circumstances on the university and its Academic Staff Members. As a result, the university has a need to efficiently transition to meet the changing circumstances related to the processes for the Evaluation for Merit Increments.

The letter of understanding between the Association of Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA) and the university is intended to address this unique situation for Academic Faculty Members, Faculty Service Officers, Librarians and Academic Teaching Staff Members.

  • Evaluation committees conduct annual reviews, tenure/continuing position decisions and promotion decisions. Committees may extend applicable deadlines applicable to July 1, 2021 decisions.
  • Members will complete an annual report for the year under review, as per usual.
  • Human Resource Services is updating the Merit Increment Reporting tool for July 1, 2021.
