Facilitative Leadership Program

Purpose and Intended Audience

The Facilitative Leadership program offers a set of practical and instantly applicable tools and skills to help you hold more effective meetings, reach agreements, and engage others in collaborative dialogue. At the heart of the program are seven powerful leadership practices that will help leaders create a work environment that enables outstanding performance and personal satisfaction.

This program is offered annually on North Campus and facilitated by the internationally renowned Interaction Institute for Social Change.

In the Facilitative Leadership Program you will learn to:

  • Create a vision of success and enroll others in its pursuit
  • Lead collaborative planning and problem-solving discussions
  • Decide who should be involved in making decisions and how to involve them
  • Coach and inspire others to perform at their best
  • Design meetings, project plans and change strategies with concrete milestones and accountabilities that people understand and support
  • Consider the three dimensions of success: results, process, and relationships
  • Celebrate accomplishment in authentic and motivating ways

When you complete the Facilitative Leadership Program, you will have greater confidence in your ability to navigate difficult situations, advocate for change, and lead collaborative processes. You will be able to make and implement decisions more quickly and have more influence over your own and others' success.

Program selection

There are 24 spaces available in the course each offering, and successful applicants will be selected based on the strength of their application. Those who are in direct supervisory roles and who are influencers on a current leadership or change initiative will be given priority. Additional selection criteria are listed on the application form.

To be eligible for this program you must:

  • Be available for all three days of the program.
  • Be a University of Alberta employee (any employee category) who is in a position to influence others and who is accountable for leading change within the organization.
  • Complete the Application Form.
  • Have your supervisor's explicit support.
  • Submit the course fee (once accepted into the program).

Successful applicants will be notified approximately 2 weeks following the application closing date.

Successful applicants will be provided information about how to pay the course fee.
